GirlFriends kicked off the new season with two informative speakers from our neighbors at FGCU. Aimee McLaughlin, Director of University Relations, who connects the community and university to support student success reminded us that free class audits for seniors are available at FGCU and there are plenty of ways to get involved. Furthermore, you can become a mentor, fund a scholarship or volunteer. Dr. Loureen Downes, is a Professor and the Founding Program Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. Her work focuses on health promotion, lifestyle behaviors and chronic disease prevention. At our recent luncheon she expanded on healthy diets and some ways to swap out ingredients for healthier options. In appreciation GirlFriends donated to the FGCU fund.

Birthday wishes were extended to those in attendance: Peggy Dempsey, Connie Haigh, Sue Johnson, Mary Jo Mack, Melody Roehrig, Ellie Wasserman and Marilyn Whitler. Also, the monthly tradition of the bracelet was awarded to Jackie Cleary.

The special interest groups are gearing up so watch your emails for the varied invites. With over thirty groups, there is something for everyone. We have a great season planned and look forward to seeing you!
